Committee Class

20160204_165532850_iOSGeneral Purpose: Being a teacher is one of the most fundamental presentations you will do from now on.  The same principles of giving a presentation exist in teaching a class.  However, you will need activities, stories, examples, slides, etc. to help you keep the audience’s attention.  It is important to know attention lasts about 10 minutes so you will need to shift gears every 10 minutes (roughly six times).

Sources:  You will use a chapter from the book which will be assigned to you. You will use multiple sources above and beyond as you start researching your topic.  You must cite all of your sources in the teaching.  Failure to verbally cite your sources will result in substantial point reduction. Only two sources may be from the Internet unless you have cleared them with Brother Haacke.

Length: 1 hour of the class.   Practice your timing!  Get a feel for exactly which part of your lesson you should be in at a given time.  Use your time wisely to present the information and offer application and reflection.

20160204_165233422_iOSDelivery:  This speech will be delivered extemporaneously from a keyword outline or keyword note cards. You may use no more than four note cards with writing on one side, or you may use a single sheet of paper.  Under no circumstances may you use your full-sentence outline.  Doing so will result in an automatic ‘D’.

Q&A: Allow the class to ask questions throughout the speech.  Be prepared to be interrupted.

Presentation Practice Center: There should be no question whether or not you go to the PPC, because you should.  This will require some extra planning to get your whole group there at the same time.  You are not expected to do the whole lesson in the center, but you should have a plan of attack.  This is a good place to practice an introduction and conclusion.

Group Evaluation:  You will be required to evaluate your group.  There will be no video to watch, but you will evaluate each person in the group, which will weigh in on the overall score.  That can be found when you go and do a self-evaluation for a speech. You will not be paid until your group has completed this evaluation.

Outline: You will submit a solid outline, which should include the PowerPoint or other materials you use through the lesson.  You need to show your solid lesson plan.
