Optional Speeches

Optional Speeches: The mandatory speeches are not enough to get you a passing grade or a satisfied employer. You need to choose enough speeches so you can reach $10,000.  You can break them up however you like. You may do three smaller speeches, or simply choose to do one big speech and one smaller speech. This is up to you. Refer to the schedule to find the due dates for each specific speech so that you can keep in mind when to prepare.

  • YouTube Story (3-4 minutes)
    • Videos are the new way to communicate. The value of a good YouTube video and a great story can’t be measured, but, we’ll try anyway.
    • Prepare a high-quality YouTube video in which you tell a story. Your story can be happy, sad, suspenseful, scary, or whatever you would like it to be. Keep it BYU-Idaho appropriate.
  • Committee Class (1 hour)
    • Are you smarter then Brother Haacke? Prove it. In groups of 2-3, teach a class this semester and see how easy it is!
    • You will prepare an assigned topic and plan out a lesson for the class.
  • Informative (6-8 minutes)
    • Tell us something we don’t know. Inform us. Tell us how to make pancakes, teach us about global warming, or even show us how to give a pedicure.
    • Prepare an in-class speech. A visual aid is mandatory but does not need to be in the form of a PowerPoint.
  • Familiar as Strange (3-6 minutes)
    • Wait, what? Exactly. Make something we all know to be familiar or common and make it weird.
    • Prepare to present about a topic that is well-known in a way that is strange.
  • Business Presentation (Varies)
    • Time to get real fancy and show your skills to the real world.
    • You will contact a business a real one. Ask for a problem or issue they may have and prepare a presentation that would provide a solution for said problem. The length of the presentation is up to the business and their needs.
