TED Talks

TED Talks are about “ideas worth spreading.” The primary intent of this presentation is to give you an opportunity to apply the lessons learned to a topic you are passionate about: an idea worth spreading. You will demonstrate your ability to engage an audience with passion, proximity, and play.

Length

10 minutes with a minute leeway (9-11 min). Do what you have to do to ensure that your presentation is within the time restraints. Practice, practice, practice. It always helps with timing!

Practice Presentation Center (PPC)

Utilizing the PPC is a requirement for this presentation. The tutors can help you with your content, slides, and delivery. They are experienced tutors and their feedback is valuable.

Your TED Presentation

You will deliver your TED presentation in a lecture hall to an audience of 25-30 people. It should incorporate all of the presentation concepts and slide design principles we’ve covered in the course, particularly a STICKY IDEA. This presentation is not about you and your idea: It is all about your audience.

The challenge is to take something you are passionate about and make the audience care about it; create a need for them to listen to you. Your presentation should be understandable, memorable, and change your audience in some way. Your slides should add some adhesive to your idea!

The possibilities for your TED are limitless. Former students have presented on a wide variety of topics such as allowing imperfection, how to convert women to science, managing your energy – not your time, and value living more than virtual relationships. You can also find inspiration on TED.com. Check out some of your favorite TED categories and speakers to generate ideas.

Bottom line: Create a presentation story, with illustrations, with a STICKY idea that inspires a change in thinking.

Turn in: Your topic is due earlier than the speech.  The due date will be on the schedule.

You will turn in your full sentence outline at anytime prior to your speech but the deadline is midnight on the day you give your speech.  (Note: this is full sentence not bullet points)

Extra Money: You will be paid $10 for each person you bring to watch the TED Talks.
